Parent Engagement

Welcome to Parent Engagement. At Riley High School we strive to involve parents in their children's education.

Parental and Community Participation

Riley High School actively works to engage parents and community stakeholders through various school sponsored activities and uses a variety of communications tools. Parents are invited to participate in a Freshman Orientation, Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Financial Aid Night, senior night, monthly Parent Organization Meetings, various athletic events, Athletic and Band Booster Club meetings and activities, activities for C.A.T.S.; the Technology and Engineering Magnet Open House and the Homecoming Parade. Parents also work with guidance department personnel to assist their child with course selections and registration.

Parents receive timely information via the Parent News section on the Riley High School web page. Electronic and Paper versions of the Riley High School Parent Newsletter are published on a quarterly basis. Additionally, weekly announcements and school and departmental bulletins are posted on the Riley web page. Parents are also able to communicate via e-mail, phone calls and school visits. Other publications related to student academic and behavioral progress are sent to parents via regular mail and include: progress reports, report cards, absence notifications, behavioral forms, course schedules, IEPs, 504 Plans and LLPs. SBCSC and Riley are currently preparing to open the parent portal of the new student management system (PowerSchool) by the end of the first semester. Parents will be able to view important academic and behavioral information about their child via this portal.

Parents regularly serve as chaperones for student events; as assistants for various sports teams, as asides and tutors in the classroom; as class sponsor; and as leaders and members of various committees and organizations.

Several Community Partnerships extend and enrich the Riley experience for our students. Selected examples include:

  • Community Support- Coca Cola, the Gates Toyota-Chevrolet dealership, area McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Chick Filet and Burger King Franchises, Martins and Walmart, Teachers' Credit Union, 1st Source Bank, the Dug Out and many other businesses support Riley activities through cash donations, donations of goods, sponsorships and advertising purchases.
  • Service Learning- Riley organizations provide valuable services to the community. Student Council holds an annual food drive for local food banks, Adelante Riley has a partnership with La Casa de Amistad to assist younger Latino students both academically and with community initiatives.
  • Community School- Our school is open to members of the community for a variety of purposes. These include: IHSAA Tournaments, Local SwimClub Practices/ Meets and meetings and activities for community organizations.

Riley High School believes that by fostering excellent relationships with parents and community stakeholders, support for the advancement of education will increase, leading to a more successful outcome for all students.
